This study examines the advantages and disadvantages of smaller local museum storage facilities versus larger regional storage complexes, with a particular focus on the long-term preservation and security of artworks. The research aims to determine which storage model better suits the needs and resources of different national museum systems, and to identify sustainable solutions for artworks storage. The analysis primarily employs qualitative methods, including interviews and case studies. The findings indicate that smaller local storages offer quick and cost-effective solutions that well serve local communities, while regional storage complexes provide greater capacity and higher security levels in the long term, though they come with higher initial costs and longer implementation times. The research suggests a hybrid approach that combines the modernization of smaller storages with the establishment of one or more regional storage complexes, taking into account long-term sustainability, artwork security, and economical energy management.
