There have been some long faces in the VDI office since Ford announced it has ended production of the Ford Focus, a car that has been a dynamics benchmark for the past 27 years and four model generations. Ford of Europe had excelled with its design of the Mk1 Focus, which brought a premium dynamics setup to the mainstream, and a raw experience for the 212 bhp RS version. Ford made further refinements for the Mk2 Focus, but a characteristic some owners found with the Mk1 RS could have presented a bigger problem for the planned 301 bhp of the Mk2: torque steer.
