This project investigates the development and optimization of a fully functional bioinspired jumping robot. It explores advancements within robotic locomotion that mimic the amazing jumping abilities of animals such as fleas, which can jump 200 times their body height! The significance of this study lies in its potential applications, for instance, search and rescue, military reconnaissance, and environmental monitoring. This project uses a combination of computer-aided design tools like Onshape, finite element analysis, and Unity simulations. These software's allows the project to effectively model and test the capabilities of the jumping mechanisms. With the benefit of real-time design adjustments and structural integrity evaluations, significantly boosting the prototyping process. The research focused on constructing a robot capable of overcoming physical obstacles, relative to its size. It was important to utilize the correct materials that optimize strength, weight, and energy efficiency to achieve this, therefore integrating carbon fibre was game-changing. The final design produced a functional robot demonstrating its capabilities to jump. Key findings include the robot's ability to jump approximately 190 mm, at an initial velocity of 3.7 m/s with a total efficiency of 52.1%. Therefore, future enhancements will aim to improve efficiency, landing stability and enable consecutive jumps.
